January 12th, 2010 -- Posted in Uncategorized | 0

Welcome back!

Music has hidden benefits. It can soothe you, motivate you, anger or depress you. You can find any type of music that will match your mood. If you run then you want to make sure that you stay at a specific heart rate to get the maximum workout while at the same time enjoy yourself. You can be a better runner with some type of music to help spur you on to a higher level. Maybe you have been trying to run a little bit longer or a little bit faster. Music can actually help you do just that.

First you need to make sure that you own an iPod or even a cheap portable dvd player. Either way it won’t cost you a lot of money to own this type of equipment. You might already have it. If not it shouldn’t cost you less than a hundred dollars to obtain. Next you will need to pick out the type of music that will inspire you. If you don’t own any music you can easily buy your favorite album on dvd or download the music from different artists that you like to your iPod. That way while you are running you can listen, and sing along while you are on your treadmill or outside in the open air. Either way you will have your new workout tape.

Music can help you keep at a certain running pace. Have you ever noticed that when you favorite song comes on the radio you might perk up a bit and are actually happier? You can have this same reaction while you are running. When you are happy the strenuous workout won’t seem so bad. The time will actually seem to fly right by. This is why it is important that the music you own or purchase to help you run is one that you not only enjoy but love. You could listen to it a thousand times and never get tired of hearing it.

Music is essential to your workout. Even if you don’t run but simply walk you will find that it benefits you too. If you are trying to lose weight or stay in shape you have to make sure that your heart is at a high enough rate to stimulate calorie burning. If you are walking or running with no music you might not even break a sweat. But music that is upbeat and not sad and depressing will get you in time with the beat. You will unconsciously stay on beat with the music. You will find that just as your clothing and shoes are a requirement so too is music. It will help keep you in fine running form.

Anyone that is serious about any time of aerobic workout whether it is walking, running, or simply riding your bike needs some form of music to improve themselves. Not only is music a requirement to helping you to attain a better workout, but it will make it more enjoyable as well. So if you aren’t currently doing so you should try it the next time you workout to compare. You’ll probably never go without your music again.

Metabolic Fitness Is Needed To Lose Weight

January 11th, 2010 -- Posted in Uncategorized | 0

If you want to take off and keep off unwanted pounds of excess body fat, a healthy metabolism (your body’s engine) is your best fat-burning friend. Unless you are one of those rare people blessed by the fast-metabolism gods, you would probably like to burn more fuel (calories) than you do now both while at work and at rest.

Often surrounded in mystery your metabolism is affected a complex interaction of your eating and exercise habits and a few genetic factors thrown in as well. It is worth taking the time to understand it though, because with a well conditioned metabolism you can bolster your fat-burning efforts in significant ways. And even the most valiant efforts at weight loss will be hindered by a sluggish metabolism.

The easiest way to increase the rate your body burns fuel is to make sure you have great ‘metabolic fitness’. This refers to the body’s response to correct exercise. In terms of calories you either ‘burn’ them up for energy or you ’store’ them as body fat.

For the last forty years exercise research focused on what happened during the exercise session and ignored the after effects. Now we know for sure what goes on during exercise directly impacts whether the body burns or stores fuel. In fact, the after effects of exercise are the most important aspect of determining metabolic ‘fitness’.

When it comes to losing weight, calories are important, but your hormones determine where, when and how those calories are used. More long, slow, exercise is not the answer and neither is restrictive dieting as both works against the metabolism in the long run. When food is reduced below a certain point (more than a few hundred calories) the body responds as if it was starving, and it will hold on to its fat stores for as long as possible.

Look to getting your body composition in the right ratios (muscle tissue/body fat ratio) by improving your ‘metabolic fitness’ if weight loss is your goal. The only exercise that will raise the metabolic rate and make your body work for you not against you is a proper program made up mostly of strength training exercise. Keep your old fashioned walking, jogging or cycling as part of your active lifestyle but never replace proper exercise with recreational activities.

Your strength training program done at the correct level of intensity will ensure your fat burning machinery (your metabolism) is boosted so it can set an army of fat gobbling muscle cells to work every minute of the day and night reducing your body fat level.

On the other hand your recreational activities will only burn fuel while you are doing them and your metabolism is not boosted to any extent to help you burn body fat.

This is the difference between the old ways of burning fat and the new better ways. The entire fat loss solution is in the muscle cells. When they are conditioned and toned they will work hard for you to keep you lean and trim something that long, slow, endurance type activities will never ever do. Get yourself started on your strength training program and enjoy the faster and more lasting fat loss results.

My name is Carolyn Hansen, and my goal is to show you how to burn fat - without starving yourself - by combining strength training with the right foods that increase metabolism, decrease food cravings, and keep you looking trim. Come find out how it is done.

Mental And Emotional Fitness Needs Exercise Too

January 11th, 2010 -- Posted in Uncategorized | 0

Often when we heard the word ‘fitness’ we tend to think of just the physical aspects of it but a person’s overall health status is not just linked to the physical fitness of our bodies. It is also linked to our mental and emotional health and fitness as well. These three are all equally important and proper exercise can improve and sustain all three areas.

Mental and emotional health is just as important as the highest degree of physical fitness one can achieve as one without the other is a bit like a stool with only three legs. It will tip over. Many people are plagued by negative emotions which can hold them back from achieving their full potential in life.

Proper exercise can act as a counterweight and dissipate those negative emotions before they can become life altering. When the human body performs vigorous activity natural chemicals are released that regulate the emotions and create positive feelings about oneself and our lot in life. This can help you get back in touch with your inner self.

We all know that exercise is great for strengthening our muscles and helping manage our body weight but many people do not think about how it helps our brain work better. From managing stress to processing emotions, exercise oils the wheels that turn in our heads when we think, feel and do.

Whenever we get our heart rate up with some muscle building and maintaining exercise like strength training oxygen rich blood gets pumped through our system to benefit all of the body’s cells, tissues and organs including the brain. This gives the brain a boost in power and generates a domino effect stimulating brain wave activity which provides energy to the rest of the body. If you are tired and fatigued an exercise session can wake up your brain and rejuvenate it again.

An exercise session also decreases stress. Vigorous movement helps release stress hormones that have built up in your body that can threaten to overflow. When you discover how physical activity will allow stress buildup to escape you will have the perfect way to manage it. Use its calming affect to help you reduce stress levels.

Exercise can eliminate the ’stinkin thinkin’ that produces depression. A session will chase any negative thoughts away and banish them forever. Without exercise these thoughts can build up and ruin a life. Pills won’t fix things, but exercise will. Think of it like house cleaning - useless and bad thoughts are simply eliminated.

With your strength training program you will find you are more creative. Exercise sparks creativity and gets the creative juices flowing and within minutes you can encounter a range of new thoughts or ideas that await further exploration.

Whatever your mental state at the time you start exercising, your session will help you feel so much better which will make you a happier more fulfilled person. It is up to each of us to give this gift to ourselves. Just 2-3 sessions each week will keep you calm and centered and you will be more productive and less stressed.
